Dana White Doubts Islam Makhachev's UFC Record Will Be Broken

Islam Makhachev has established a new UFC record for the most consecutive victories, prompting UFC President Dana White to speculate whether this achievement will ever be surpassed. Makhachev secured his 17th consecutive win via unanimous decision against Ian Machado Garry in his inaugural welterweight title defense, surpassing the previous streak held by UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva. Many anticipate Makhachev will continue to extend this impressive tally.

During the post-fight press conference for UFC 330, White commented on the significance of Makhachev's accomplishment, suggesting it might stand for a long time. "If he keeps going like he says he’s going to keep going, I mean, it might never be beaten, at least while I’m alive,” White remarked. He lauded Makhachev's performance, noting that Garry also fought commendably. White emphasized the importance of weight classes, citing the matchup as a prime example.

White had previously expressed some criticism of Garry's performance, acknowledging his talent but suggesting a lack of a "killer instinct" in the later stages of the fight. He also found Garry's respectful actions towards the end of the bout to be particularly frustrating.

While Makhachev has not set a definitive date for his return to the Octagon, he plans to compete again before Ramadan. If he avoids injuries, a return is anticipated around January 2027, potentially allowing him to further build upon his record.
