Supreme Court Allows Trump's White House Ballroom Construction to Proceed Temporarily
The Supreme Court has granted President Donald Trump a temporary reprieve, allowing him to continue construction on his controversial White House ballroom project for the present time.
Chief Justice John Roberts issued an order suspending a federal district court judge's injunction. This injunction had previously prohibited Trump from proceeding with construction while a lawsuit challenging the ballroom project was ongoing.
Roberts' order was issued on the very day the injunction was set to take effect.
This ruling is considered an administrative stay and could be overturned by the full Supreme Court.
In 2025, Trump initiated the demolition of the White House's East Wing to make way for the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom. This action was reportedly taken without prior notification to Congress.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is currently engaged in legal action against Trump, seeking to halt the project. Their argument is that Trump failed to secure the necessary authorizations and reviews required for such an undertaking.
