Djokovic Secures First Win Post-Wimbledon at China Open
Novak Djokovic started his China Open campaign with a win, his first since reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in July. He defeated Nuno Borges in Beijing, marking his 30th consecutive victory there. Djokovic has not played in this tournament since 2015.
The former world number one admitted to a health issue affecting him in hot, humid conditions for the past few years. He appeared to struggle at times against Borges, using his racquet to stretch his back and requiring a medical timeout for his right shoulder. Despite these challenges, Djokovic won in one hour and 50 minutes.
He will next face Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, is aiming for a seventh China Open title.
In the women's singles, Britain's Katie Boulter advanced to the second round after defeating Mai Hontama of Japan in straight sets. Boulter will play Czech seventh seed Karolina Muchova next.
