Sinner Withdraws from China Open Due to Knee Injury
Jannik Sinner, the world number one, will not defend his China Open title due to ongoing knee injury recovery. This same injury previously forced him to miss the US Open in August. Sinner has not competed since his Wimbledon final victory over Alexander Zverev.
The 25-year-old Italian won the China Open in both 2023 and 2025. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and conclude on October 6.
"I want to send the warmest greetings to the Chinese fans," Sinner stated in a video shared on X. "I am very sorry to announce that I will be unable to play in Beijing this year. My knee is not in the condition I would like it to be, and I am not yet ready to compete."
"I will do everything possible to be on court as soon as I can. What I miss the most is, naturally, the tournament, the fans, and the atmosphere. I have had great experiences there in the past, including winning the title last year. I am very disappointed that I cannot defend it this year."
Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic are among the prominent players still anticipated to participate in Beijing.
