Heavyweight MMA fighter Paul Elliott, preparing to headline ONE Fight Night 48, finds his true calling not in the octagon, but among animals. Growing up in Middlesbrough, England, Elliott’s childhood was dominated by pets. Cats were an early presence, followed by dogs throughout his teenage years. His mother’s work at rescue kennels meant their home often became a haven for dogs that other shelters couldn't rehome.

“I'm definitely a dog fan. But the thing is, I’m not just a dog guy. I genuinely like all animals. When I was younger, growing up, we had cats. Then, when I was a teenager, we got our first dog, and from there, more have joined the pack,” Elliott explained. He humorously noted that as he moved out, his parents seemed to “replace” their children with more dogs.

At its most crowded, Elliott’s parents’ home housed five dogs and two cats, with goldfish also making appearances. This menagerie followed earlier pets like Gracie, Brooke, Asher, and Casper. A nearby beach provided a daily outlet for the dogs’ energy, with the whole pack often joining Elliott for outings.

“When I was in my twenties, we had five dogs, and as time went on, we had a couple pass away. But we had cats as well. So, we had five dogs and two cats. It was a bit of a zoo experience at my parents’ house,” Elliott recalled. He added that despite the number of animals, it wasn’t overly disruptive as they were kept mostly downstairs, separate from the family's living spaces.
