Ryan Spann marked his return to the Octagon at UFC Vegas 116 with a spectacular second-round knockout victory over Marcus Buchecha.
Early in the fight, Spann found himself in a challenging position, being taken down by the highly accomplished BJJ world champion just 90 seconds into the bout. However, ‘Superman’ managed to work his way back to his feet, though the standing exchange was short-lived. Buchecha attempted another takedown, only to briefly end up on his back before Spann broke free. In the final moments of the first round, Buchecha made one last effort to bring the fight to the ground, but Spann was unwilling to engage in grappling.
The second round began with referee Herb Dean issuing two warnings to Buchecha for extending his fingers within the opening minute. Following these cautions, Buchecha resumed his pursuit of takedowns. Unable to secure a takedown against Spann, ‘Superman’ countered with a powerful straight right hand. The blow sent Buchecha stumbling across the cage, prompting the referee to immediately intervene and stop the fight.
Official Result: Ryan Spann defeated Marcus Buchecha via KO (straight right) at 2:10 of Round 2.
