Nioh 3 Introduces New Missions with Free Update, Teasing First Paid DLC

Sports news » Nioh 3 Introduces New Missions with Free Update, Teasing First Paid DLC

Koei Tecmo’s producer for Nioh 3, Kohei Shibata, has announced a new free update for the Team Ninja title. This update aims to enhance the gameplay experience by introducing additional challenges, foreshadowing the game’s upcoming paid downloadable content (DLC).

The update, scheduled for release on April 27th across all platforms, focuses on three key areas. Firstly, it adds “multiple high-difficulty Combat Scrolls,” which are essentially side missions designed to offer extra challenges beyond the main story. The developer believes that Nioh 3 can accommodate an abundance of such missions.

Secondly, the update introduces the “Penitence Stone,” a familiar item in the Nioh series. This item allows players to increase the game’s overall difficulty in exchange for better quality drops, providing a means to acquire rarer and more valuable items by accepting a significantly harder challenge.

Furthermore, adjustments will be made to New Game Plus (NG+) and other high-difficulty Combat Scrolls, incorporating new rewards. These changes are specifically tailored for players seeking more content and a greater challenge after completing the main story.

This free update serves as a prelude to the paid expansions that are planned for release. The first paid DLC is expected in September of this year, with the second following in February of next year. Shibata confirmed that development on these expansions is ongoing and expressed hope that players will enjoy them.

The success of Nioh 3, alongside other recent titles like Pokopia, has prompted Koei Tecmo to revise its earnings forecast upward for the current fiscal year. The game has been well-received, and this continued support through updates and planned DLC indicates its strong performance.
