The development of the immersive sim Fortune’s Run is back on track now that its lead creator, Dizzie, has been released from prison. The game’s progress had been put on hold at the beginning of last year when Dizzie began a three-year prison sentence for a past offense. Today, news has emerged that development is resuming following Dizzie’s release.
In a Steam post announcing the news, Dizzie outlined plans for the game’s development moving forward. The project has been kept somewhat alive by Kim, another developer who joined the team after Dizzie’s incarceration and Arachne’s departure. Dizzie’s primary goal is to reach version 1.0, the game’s final release, as quickly as possible. The immediate next steps include finalizing critical story missions, relaunching the demo, and preparing for the 1.0 release for commercial reasons. To manage the workload effectively and adapt to a new perspective on time management post-release, two planned side quests have been removed.
While Dizzie is hesitant to make concrete promises, there’s confidence that sales of version 1.0 will be strong enough to fund the completion of features that are currently out of scope due to resource limitations, such as extra challenges or improvements to the netcode for co-op mode. The estimated timeframe for the game’s release is between six and twelve months, though Dizzie notes that it’s only been 72 hours since release and adaptation is still ongoing.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Fortune’s Run is a highly regarded immersive sim that draws inspiration from genre classics, incorporating unique ideas in both combat and movement. It launched into early access in 2023 and received significant praise. Development was abruptly halted in 2025 due to Dizzie’s prison sentence. While the exact nature of the crime remains undisclosed, Dizzie has stated it was not sexual and has alluded to substance abuse and violence, acknowledging past harmful actions towards others. It appears that circumstances have changed significantly, with the original three-year sentence likely reduced due to good behavior and sobriety. Dizzie has consistently expressed a strong desire to complete the game, to which they have dedicated years of effort. The experience of incarceration seems to have reshaped Dizzie’s priorities, as they stated on Steam, “it’s time to be a responsible adult and not spend months developing soldering minigames, so you can finally see 1.0.”
