Vlambeer Revitalizes Gun Godz with a Major Update
Years after its original release, Vlambeer has launched a significant update for Gun Godz, their 2012 first-person shooter. This "quality of life overhaul" ensures the game's compatibility with modern operating systems, addressing the main issue that prevented it from running correctly on versions beyond Windows 8.
The Dutch studio, now led by Jan Willem Nijman after acquiring Rami Ismail's share in 2024, has refined this tribute to gangsta rap and classic shooters. The update introduces improved controls, controller support, and finally, a pause and options menu.
Available for free on Steam and itch.io, Gun Godz maintains its original zero-euro price, as it did when widely published in 2019. Although the game initially debuted as a Kickstarter reward in 2012, it wasn't until 2019 that it arrived on Steam in an almost identical state. This new update, however, adapts it to current standards, eliminating issues like freezes when using Alt+Tab.
This initiative is not isolated. Recently, Nuclear Throne, another of the studio's masterpieces, also received an update that not only included fixes and technical improvements but also added a new character, Cuz. The connection between both titles is notable: Yung Venuz, the protagonist of Gun Godz, made his first appearance in this game before becoming an iconic money and weapons-obsessed character in Nuclear Throne.
Jan Willem Nijman has stated his intention to keep Vlambeer's entire catalog updated to ensure its longevity across future operating systems. Furthermore, Ultrabugs, the project Vlambeer was working on before the founders' separation, continues its slow but steady development. Fans patiently await its release.
