The third edition of the Triple-i Initiative, an event organized by Evil Empire, recently showcased a curated selection of independent games without the usual fanfare of advertising or presenters. This event proved to be a solid showcase, brimming with interesting titles that are sure to make it onto our upcoming release watchlists. While many games were featured, here are some of the most captivating:
- Prove You're Human: From sunset visitor, the studio behind the acclaimed 1000xRESIST, this game takes center stage. It explores the narrative of an AI that believes it's human and a human tasked with discussing the nature of existence with the machine. The concept is compelling, and the trailer is even more impressive. For those intrigued, we highly recommend checking out our interview with Remy Siu, creative director at sunset visitor, regarding their previous release, 1000xRESIST.
- Cairn: On The Trail: This is the first DLC for Cairn, introducing new climbing challenges, diverse terrain types to navigate (and fall from), and expanding upon what is undeniably one of the best games of 2026. Set to be released this summer and offered for free, this DLC is the first of three planned expansions from The Game Bakers. We were fortunate to interview Emeric Thoa, the studio's creative director, about Cairn, and his insights are well worth a listen.
- Castlevania: Belmont's Curse: The latest installment in Konami's venerable series is being developed by Evil Empire. Following their successful work on Dead Cells and the noteworthy The Rogue Prince of Persia, expectations are high for this French-Japanese collaboration, a partnership that has consistently delivered excellent titles in recent years.
- Thick as Thieves: This new immersive sim from OtherSide, the studio founded by Warren Spector and Paul Neurath, is slated for release on May 20th. The game recently underwent a direction change, shifting away from PvPvE towards a more traditional solo or cooperative gameplay experience.
- Over the Hill: The studio behind Absolute Drift and the exceptional Art of Rally returns with a game that appears to integrate lessons learned from SnowRunner into its captivating aesthetic. Classic cars navigate perilous routes, all presented with stunning visuals. A playtest is scheduled for the weekend of April 24th; you can sign up here.
- Don't Starve Elsewhere: This was another major announcement: the sequel to the popular Don't Starve. While it omits the numeral "2" from its title, this new entry from Klei appears poised to expand the established formula in exciting and promising new directions. A release date has not yet been confirmed.
The 45-minute event featured numerous other games, followed by a post-show. If you missed the live broadcast, the full video is available above. We encourage you to share your favorite titles in the comments below.
As it's Friday, we can't sign off without asking: what will you be playing this weekend? This is a tradition we share with our audience, so please let us know your gaming plans until the next Recarga Activa, Reload, or whatever else comes our way.
