Arsenal has taken a crucial lead against Atletico Madrid heading into the second half of their Champions League semi-final at the Emirates. Despite a strong defensive effort from the Spanish side, Arsenal found a way through in the dying moments of the first half.
The match had been a tight affair, with Arsenal pushing for an opener but repeatedly thwarted by the Atletico defense, including key interventions from Marcos Llorente and Matteo Ruggeri. Both teams had created significant chances, making for a balanced first half.
Saka Breaks the Deadlock Before Half-Time
In the final minute of the first half, Viktor Gyokeres made a decisive run down the right flank. Atletico’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, came out to meet him, forcing the Swedish forward wide. While Oblak managed to recover and save Leandro Trossard’s follow-up shot at the back post from Gyokeres’ cross, the rebound fell kindly to Bukayo Saka. Saka was quickest to react and tapped the ball home from close range, giving Arsenal the lead.
