The upcoming BKFC 90 event on May 30th will feature a high-stakes showdown for the interim welterweight crown between Connor Tierney and Rico Franco II. Offering his insights on this anticipated title fight is LT Nelson, a fighter with a history against Franco.
Nelson recently successfully defended his BKB middleweight title with a decisive knockout victory. His past includes a bare-knuckle boxing encounter with Rico Franco at BYB 10 in May 2022, where Nelson secured a significant win against the seasoned fighter. Franco, who is also a former BKB Prizefighter lightweight tournament champion, had previously defeated Connor Tierney with a first-round knockout at BKB 16 in March 2019.
When asked about his prediction for the rematch between Tierney and Franco in BKFC, Nelson commented:
“I’m not entirely sure. I don’t pay that much attention to all of it. But I know Rico Franco is a gangster. Since that first fight, if he’s like me, he’s been working and improving constantly. I don’t watch the [Connor] Tierney guy fight much, so I don’t know a lot about him. However, I know he’s a tough competitor, and I’ve heard good things.”
Further elaborating on the upcoming interim BKFC title clash at 165 pounds, scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom, Nelson stated:
“Rico, it’s going to be another barnburner. I know both of them will aim to stand toe-to-toe, and they possess good boxing techniques. So, it will be a different kind of technical war, if you will. Rico has significant power. I believe Rico can win this. He’s a tough guy with many skills, and I wish him the best.”
