Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League has sparked debate, with many focusing on the red card issued to Eduardo Camavinga in their aggregate loss to Bayern Munich. However, Barcelona icon Thierry Henry has urged Real Madrid fans to look beyond the controversial decisions and acknowledge the team’s on-field performance.
According to Diario AS, Henry criticized Real Madrid for a lack of “on-field intelligence” during their match in Munich. He suggested that instead of focusing on the referee’s calls, fans should recognize that the team provided reasons for such decisions.
“Real Madrid fans are going to flood the networks crying for the referee,” Henry stated. “They will say that Camavinga’s second yellow card was a disgrace, that it was too soft for a Champions League quarter-final, and that the officials were biased against him. But you have to understand it: when you’re playing away at the Allianz Arena, you don’t give the referee a single reason to make a decision. You have to be smarter than that.”
Henry highlighted Real Madrid’s strong first half, where they dominated with players like Güler and Mbappé, leading to a false sense of security. He then described how Bayern Munich seized control in the second half, utilizing their numerical advantage to “suffocate” Real Madrid. He also praised Michael Olise’s decisive goal in added time, noting the “icy composure” required to score against Real Madrid in such a crucial moment, suggesting that Bayern had “given them a brutal taste of their own medicine” in terms of comebacks.
Petit: Some Real Madrid Players Lacking the Necessary Caliber
Emmanuel Petit echoed Henry’s sentiments, expressing his view that certain Real Madrid players in the lineup at the Allianz Arena do not possess the quality required for the club.
“There are players who don’t have the level to play for Real Madrid. They have to change to be able to win this type of game,” Petit commented.
