When questioned about his actions after the game, Vinicius confirmed that his celebration was indeed linked to the banner from the previous season.
“Football is a long game, and last season they provoked me. I was able to respond with the celebration I felt was appropriate,” he stated to Movistar+, as reported by Marca. Later, in an interview with CBS Golazo, Vinicius clarified that his gesture was not intended as disrespect.
“It wasn’t disrespectful towards them, but it was a way for me to make a point to the crowd.”

Speaking more generally about his team’s performance, Vinicius underscored the significance of eliminating a formidable opponent like Manchester City while maintaining strong control over the game.
“This was a very important match for our confidence. We’ve had some good games since the beginning of the season, but we haven’t controlled a match to the extent we did in this tie. It was an incredibly tough game against a magnificent team, led by a fantastic coach. They command a lot of possession, but we understood the need to work tirelessly and capitalize on our opportunities, even though I squandered a few.”
