Boston Bruins Sign Top Prospect James Hagens to AHL Tryout
The Boston Bruins have officially signed forward James Hagens to an amateur tryout agreement with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
General Manager Don Sweeney expressed his excitement about Hagens joining the Bruins organization and taking this crucial next step in his career. Sweeney emphasized that James is a vital part of the team's future, viewing this as an excellent opportunity for him to gain immediate professional experience in Providence and continue his development.
Hagens, a 19-year-old talent, was Boston's seventh overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. During his sophomore season at Boston College, he led the Hockey East conference in scoring, accumulating 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) in just 34 games. In the 2024-25 season, Hagens had already made an impact, earning a spot on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team with 37 points in 37 games.
Originally from Hauppauge, N.Y., Hagens has an impressive international resume, having represented the United States in two IIHF World Junior Championship tournaments (2025, 2026) and two IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championships (2023, 2024). Notably, he helped Team USA secure gold medals at both the 2025 World Juniors and the 2023 U-18 events.
