Nate Diaz has indicated that he has no intention of retiring from combat sports and has identified Charles Oliveira as his preferred opponent for a potential return to the UFC.
Diaz is scheduled to make his MMA comeback this weekend in a fight against Mike Perry on the MVP and Netflix card, marking his return after a four-year break from the sport.
During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Diaz addressed his future with the UFC. He expressed a desire to avoid contractual obligations that would restrict his ability to compete in other organizations. However, he did not rule out a return to the UFC once he has concluded his current commitments outside the octagon.
Nate Diaz Vies for Charles Oliveira’s BMF Championship
Nate Diaz has stated his ambition to face the new BMF champion, Charles Oliveira, upon his UFC return. Diaz appeared unimpressed with Oliveira’s performance at UFC 326, where the Brazilian secured the BMF title by wrestling Max Holloway. Following Oliveira’s victory, Diaz made it clear that he is now targeting that specific belt.
In his conversation with Ariel Helwani, Diaz specifically named “Do Bronx” as the fighter he wishes to confront when he re-enters the octagon:
“It was hard to jump back in, something I tried so hard for so many years to get out of. I can’t just jump right back in… Oliveira out of everybody. I’m gonna go back and get that belt.”
Diaz also mentioned that while a trilogy fight with Conor McGregor is something he’s open to, he believes the timing isn’t right at present, as both fighters have other business to attend to before such a bout could take place.
