Meccha Chameleon, described as a ‘hide-and-seek game where you paint your body to camouflage yourself,’ has surpassed an impressive milestone of over 7 million copies sold on Steam.
Launched on June 10th, the title quickly gained viral traction across social media platforms. Sales updates have been rolling in at an astonishing pace, mirroring the frequency of game patches. The game celebrated reaching 5 million copies sold just last Friday, and by the weekend, while versions 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 were being released, an additional 2 million players had acquired the game.
The success story of Meccha Chameleon is intrinsically linked to Lemorion, the Japanese solo developer responsible for the game. Lemorion is the sole recipient of the €6.15 from each copy sold, alongside Valve’s share. This marks a significant achievement for the developer, whose debut on Steam, PENGUIN HOTEL -Chapter 1-, was released in October 2024. Lemorion also pursued a sequel and other gaming experiences, seemingly themed around penguins and mutant hamburgers.
In addition to expressing gratitude for the overwhelming reception of his game, Lemorion used his latest message to announce that a new map with a Japanese theme will be added to Meccha Chameleon imminently, expected to be released today or tomorrow.
