Barcelona has been a significant player in the transfer market this week, actively pursuing reinforcements for their attacking line, which has consequently cast a shadow over the future of Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford.
Rashford has reportedly expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona this summer and appeared optimistic about his prospects after a discussion with manager Hansi Flick. Flick indicated that he was counting on Rashford for the upcoming season and had approved his permanent transfer. However, Barcelona has been hesitant to meet the โฌ30 million buy-out clause, hoping to negotiate a lower fee with Manchester United. The English club, however, remains firm on their valuation.
Barcelona’s Contractual Limit for Rashford
According to reports from Sport, Rashford’s buy-out option is set to expire on June 15th, fifteen days before his loan agreement concludes. It is plausible that Barcelona might allow this clause to lapse and revisit negotiations. However, their recent aggressive move for Anthony Gordon has introduced further uncertainty regarding Rashford’s situation. Barcelona has reportedly agreed to a deal for Gordon exceeding โฌ80 million, and his preferred positionsโleft-wing and central strikerโare precisely where Rashford operates. Despite this, Ben Jacobs has conveyed from his sources that the pursuit of Gordon is not directly impacting the possibility of retaining Rashford.
Furthermore, Barcelona’s interest has extended to Julian Alvarez. If they were to secure his signature, it would create a crowded attacking unit, with Raphinha, Gordon, Rashford, Alvarez, and Ferran Torres vying for potentially two starting spots. Given that at least three of these players would expect regular first-team action, it seems improbable that Barcelona would invest heavily in Gordon and keep Rashford if Raphinha also remains at the club.
