Former two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira recently suggested that Josh Hokit might face a release from the promotion following the upcoming White House event. However, Hokit swiftly refuted these claims on X, asserting that he is under an eight-fight contract and unlikely to be cut by the UFC, especially after his thrilling recent performance against Curtis Blaydes, a fight widely considered a contender for Fight of the Year.
Hokit has been vocal in his criticism of “Poatan,” who in turn has stated that Hokit has overstepped boundaries, particularly by involving family in their verbal sparring. While Pereira has largely remained reserved, Hokit continues to provoke “Poatan,” frequently calling him out and expressing a desire for a future matchup.
Josh Hokit Responds to Alex Pereira’s Speculation
In a recent interview with the UFC, the 28-year-old Hokit addressed Pereira’s speculation about his potential departure from the UFC roster after June 14. Hokit stated:
“[Alex] Pereira can say whatever he wants. When you put on a fight like I did in my last bout, I don’t see myself going anywhere. I’ve also just signed an eight-fight contract. He’s just talking for the sake of it, and he’s running away. He’s scared; perhaps he’s hoping Dana [White] kicks me out.”
Josh Hokit is scheduled to face heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis this weekend at UFC Freedom 250. Meanwhile, Pereira, aiming to become the first fighter in the promotion to achieve championships in three divisions, will compete against Ciryl Gane on June 14 for the interim 265-pound strap.
Should both fighters secure victories in their upcoming bouts, a confrontation between them could become a strong possibility given the escalating animosity. Pereira has indicated his intention to fight three times a year, provided he emerges from his bout at the White House event without significant injuries and secures the interim belt.
With undisputed heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall currently recuperating from eye surgery and not expected to return soon, a matchup against Hokit could be a viable option for Pereira in the coming months. If a grudge match between Pereira and Hokit were to materialize, it would offer the Brazilian an opportunity to retaliate for Hokit’s remarks concerning him and his family.
