Sports news ยป Kristoffer Reitan Achieves Maiden PGA Tour Victory at Truist Championship

Kristoffer Reitan, a rookie golfer from Norway, has clinched his first PGA Tour title at the Truist Championship. He entered the final day trailing by one shot but posted a 2-under-par 69 to secure a two-shot victory.

A jubilant Reitan, 28, expressed his elation, stating, “Iโ€™m absolutely over the moon. It happened way sooner than I would have imagined. Awesome, awesome experience.” This win comes in his 15th Tour start.

After an impressive bogey-free 64 on Saturday that propelled him into contention at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., Reitan maintained his composure. While his final round started with even par, his closest competitor, Alex Fitzpatrick, struggled with 3 over. Fitzpatrick rallied with three birdies on the front nine, but Reitan surged ahead with crucial birdies on the 14th and 15th holes.

Fitzpatrick’s chances were dashed by a double bogey on the 17th, allowing Reitan to par in and finish at an impressive 15-under-par 269. Rickie Fowler and Nicolai Hรธjgaard tied for second place at 13 under, with Fowler shooting a final-round 65 and Hรธjgaard a 68. Fitzpatrick ultimately finished in fourth place, three shots behind at 12-under 272 after a final round of 73.

Reitan’s Journey: From Considering YouTube to PGA Tour Champion

In a candid revelation, Reitan admitted that he had contemplated a switch to YouTube golf due to dissatisfaction with his game after losing his DP Tour card. He was seeking ways to rekindle his passion and enjoyment for the sport.

โ€œI was considering whether or not I wanted to continue playing professionally. So, yeah, I just had some thoughts about how to make the game a little bit more fun, a little bit more relaxed,โ€ Reitan explained. He believed that a YouTube platform might have offered a less intense, more enjoyable competitive outlet.

However, instead of embarking on a new online venture, Reitan opted for a break from golf, a decision that proved transformative for his perspective and game. “It helped me find my game again. It helped me discover my talents again,” he shared. This renewed self-belief was instrumental in his return to strong performance.

Reitan’s success follows a strong previous year, where he secured two victories on the DP World Tour. He earned his PGA Tour card for the first time by finishing within the top 10 of the 2025 DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai. Prior to this win, his best performance this season was a tie for second at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he partnered with Kris Ventura.

Fowler’s Strong Surge Falls Short

Rickie Fowler mounted an impressive challenge on Sunday, starting with five birdies on his front nine to take a one-shot lead. “The first nine was โ€˜Letโ€™s go have a good day,โ€™ and back nine was, โ€˜Hey, we actually are in a spot where we can go win this,โ€™โ€ Fowler commented on his strong start.

Despite his aggressive play, Fowler, who began the day seven shots off the lead, couldn’t maintain his momentum. Playing ahead of the final groups, Fowler missed a critical 6-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole, a moment when Reitan, Fitzpatrick, and Hรธjgaard were in a four-way tie for the lead with him.

Reitan regained the outright lead by reaching the par-5 15th in two shots and converting for birdie. Simultaneously, Fitzpatrick struggled with a difficult chip from the thick rough, resulting in a par and dropping him back. Hรธjgaard also faltered with a bogey on the 16th.

Fowler’s hopes for a victory were ultimately dashed when his approach shot on the 18th landed in the deep rough, leading to a bogey. Fowler remains the only player with top-10 finishes in all four of the last Signature Events, showcasing his consistent high-level performance.

Disappointing Finish for Young

Cameron Young, ranked No. 3 in the world, experienced a difficult final round. Seeking his second consecutive win after a victory the previous week at the Cadillac Championship, Young, who started the day just two shots off the lead, faltered with a double bogey on the second hole and managed only one birdie for the remainder of his round. He finished tied for 10th, six shots behind the leader.
