Javon Wright Vows to “Beat His A**” in Heated BKB 54 Title Rematch vs. Dan Gittens

Sports news » Javon Wright Vows to “Beat His A**” in Heated BKB 54 Title Rematch vs. Dan Gittens

Javon Wright, the BKB Police Gazette welterweight champion, is gearing up to defend his title against Dan Gittens at BKB 54’s “Mayhem in Manchester” event on May 16th. This highly anticipated rematch, which was originally scheduled for January, has been fueled by escalating tensions throughout the year. Wright expressed his eagerness for the fight to finally take place, stating his anticipation that Gittens will finally back up his trash talk.

Regarding the palpable animosity heading into this clash, Wright did not hold back. “Oh, yeah. I’mma smack the s**t out of him for real,” he declared. He alluded to Gittens “crying like a little girl” since August, complaining about the title fight after Wright’s unexpected withdrawal due to injury a week prior. Wright feels Gittens has been complaining to promoters and anyone who would listen, and now he intends to make Gittens prove his words in the ring.

Wright confirmed that Gittens likely doubted the legitimacy of his injury. “Yeah, he definitely was,” Wright admitted. However, he emphasized that his injury was real, known to his camp, and that’s all that truly matters.

Beyond the fight, Wright shared his motivation as a champion: being a good father. He believes winning a world title means little if it cannot be shared with his children. His daughters often join him at the gym, showing interest in his training. He recounted a recent conversation where his daughter asked about his opponent and warned him not to lose, adding a playful pressure to perform.

Wright acknowledged that his daughters are quick to tease him if he loses, a precedent he’s keen to avoid. “Oh, yeah. Yeah, they are definitely gonna let me hear. They definitely gonna let me hear it,” he said, determined to prevent that scenario.

He also expressed immense pride in being part of BKB’s growth, noting the expansion into England, the signing of major fighters, and the launch of the Ricky Hatton Foundation. He sees BKB becoming increasingly global and is grateful to be a champion within the organization.

Wright highlighted the historical significance of the Police Gazette belt, which carries over a century of lineage, adding another layer to the championship he holds. “Yes, it definitely is,” he confirmed, feeling his name is now etched in legacy by winning this storied title.

Describing his unique training methods for the BKB Trigon, Wright revealed he often shadow boxes in small, enclosed spaces like saunas. This practice, he believes, prepares him for the compact ring. “So if I can maneuver around and do my pivots and whatnot in the sauna then the trigon is pretty much nothing at that point,” he explained.

He further explained that training in the 100-degree sauna also helps him regulate his breathing and temperature under duress, simulating the exhaustion of a late-round fight. This intense preparation makes him more accustomed to difficult situations in the ring.

Wright cited his second fight against Kylle McMillan as an instance where this training paid off. Facing fatigue in the fourth or fifth round, he utilized his movement and pivoting to control the pace, ultimately securing the win. He emphasized the importance of pushing past limits in tough fights, drawing on his training and game plan.

Wright also discussed the evolving fight IQ in bare-knuckle boxing, noting that his clinch work, honed from his MMA and kickboxing background, is a significant weapon. “Because like I said, usually when I get that arm behind your head, it’s most likely you not getting out too, most of the time,” he stated.

He continues to train at Hill Street Boxing Gym, benefiting from the expertise of former BKB champion Julio Tanori. Wright humorously noted that Tanori “be beating me up sometimes,” highlighting the “iron sharpens iron” dynamic.

Javon Wright States that Dan Gittens “is gonna get his a** destroyed”

Recalling his dominant first BKB title fight, Wright anticipates a similar outcome against Gittens. He has trained harder than ever for this bout, largely due to Gittens’ persistent trash talk. “But [the] dude [has] been running his mouth a lot. So, he gave me a lot more motivation to get ready for this fight,” Wright said, concluding that he will be the one victorious.

He chuckled when it was suggested his daughters’ teasing prepared him for Gittens’ verbal attacks. “Definitely,” he responded, adding, “I’m waiting for him to get here because I’m going to be talking s**t the entire next three days into the fight.”

Wright is willing to engage in trash talk when provoked. He believes Gittens’ suggestions of fighting outside the ring without referees indicate his fear of facing Wright under official supervision. “But I beat his ass outside the ring, inside the ring. I really don’t care,” Wright asserted, reiterating his desire for Gittens to prove his claims, especially the one about ending Wright’s career.

In his final thoughts before fight week, Javon Wright declared, “Oh, yeah. My thought is Dan Gittens is a hoe, and I can’t wait to see him Saturday.”
