Recent reports from Italy indicate that a transfer for Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni to Barcelona is becoming more likely. The Italian international is among the players Inter might consider selling this summer, and Liverpool in the Premier League has also shown interest.
Only last month, Bastoni appeared set to sign a contract extension in Milan. However, a shift in Inter’s strategy now means they are open to bids for the player. Reports from last week suggested that an offer around €70 million might convince Inter to sell Bastoni, who has two years left on his current contract. His reported wage demands are €5 million net annually (€10 million gross in Spain).
Inter Could Consider Offers of €50m and Over
According to GdS, Inter might now be amenable to a deal starting from €50 million as a fixed fee, complemented by additional variables. The Nerazzurri are planning a squad overhaul this summer, viewing Bastoni as both expendable and a valuable asset for generating funds. The 26-year-old defender has recently faced criticism from Inter supporters, reportedly being whistled and heavily admonished for an alleged dive against AC Milan.
Barcelona Move Would Be of Interest to Bastoni
Barcelona’s interest in Bastoni is long-standing, with Matteo Moretto confirming the player’s willingness to join the Catalan club. He is reportedly the top defensive target for Director of Football Deco. However, it remains uncertain if Barcelona will commit significant funds to a defender, given their primary focus on acquiring a centre-forward, which could make a move for Bastoni financially challenging. Liverpool has also been linked, and for them, finances would not be an obstacle. Should Inter’s asking price become more attainable, Barcelona might be swayed to make their first substantial defensive investment since signing Jules Kounde.
