Incrementalist, the studio behind the acclaimed Astro Prospector, has announced its new project, Hole Is Mine. Available as a demo on both itch and Steam since late April, this incremental adventure tasks players with descending into a mysterious hole, digging for upgrades, and improving their excavation abilities.
The game’s demo showcases the studio’s deep understanding of incremental gameplay. The inclusion of adorable “Mini’ohs” to assist with mining fits perfectly into the game’s loop, complemented by pleasing animations. A touch of cosmic horror, introduced through the presence of tentacled creatures, adds to Hole Is Mine‘s potential to become a must-play title.
A recent update to the demo introduces an “endless mode,” designed to extend gameplay for those who wish to continue digging while awaiting the full release this summer. While this mode doesn’t add new content, it allows players to search for undiscovered elements and delve as deep as possible.
Before its official launch, players can experience the allure of the “Hole” through the available demo, which can also be played directly in a web browser. It’s worth noting that Incrementalist’s previous game, Astro Prospector, received a significant free update in November called “Endless Coffee.” This update introduced a new game mode featuring five new weapons, over two hundred new upgrades, nine different ships, new enemies, and numerous ways to explore the universe.
Incrementalist is a Spanish studio composed of Álvaro ‘Sienfails’, Javier ‘Delunado’, and Raúl ‘Lindryn’. Following their approach with Astro Prospector, they will self-publish Hole Is Mine in some territories, while partnering with SpaceJazz for publishing duties in others.
