Mauricio Pochettino, the USMNT manager, has refuted claims of recent contact with Real Madrid, despite persistent speculation linking him to their coaching role. The Argentine tactician was previously considered by Los Blancos following Zinedine Zidane's departure in 2021 and is once again being mentioned as a possible candidate for the upcoming summer.

Pochettino's current contract is set to conclude this summer, after the 2026 World Cup where he will lead the host nation, the United States. His name has emerged among several candidates, including Unai Emery and Jurgen Klopp, who are reportedly being considered by Real Madrid for their managerial position this summer.

Pochettino Addresses Real Madrid Speculation

During a press conference on Monday, the 54-year-old was questioned about the Real Madrid rumors. While he confirmed that no direct contact had taken place, he acknowledged that he and his coaching staff remain open to future opportunities.

Pochettino stated, "No, at the moment, no. I think we are very, very focused. I’m fully focused here on the World Cup. Everyone knows I am committed to the national team here. I believe it's not the time to discuss the future right now. There has been no approach, and I think we need to... but, by the way, who knows what will happen?"

He continued, "Like I said, we are open. We don't have a contract for the future, but why not, if we are happy and the federation is happy, and it's just about seeing. I think the most important thing now is to focus on tomorrow and on the World Cup, and to try to improve. We are focused on improving the team. Of course, the rumors are there, but that is our business, and we need to accept this type of rumor."

Alvaro Arbeloa Reportedly Gaining Support Within Real Madrid

These rumors initially surfaced several weeks prior, when Alvaro Arbeloa's position as manager appeared somewhat vulnerable. However, recent impressive victories against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have significantly bolstered his claim for the permanent role. It appears he is now starting to gain the full confidence of the squad, and should this positive trend in results persist, he might well be entrusted with the managerial duties for the upcoming season.
