Real Madrid Under Fire: Camavinga Also Allegedly Misdiagnosed in Injury Scandal
Reports indicate that Real Madrid has seemingly misdiagnosed injuries for a second player this season, with Eduardo Camavinga now implicated after similar claims involving Kylian Mbappé. Camavinga has faced recurring injury problems over the last two years.
Controversy arose in December when French media reported that Mbappé's initial knee scan by Real Madrid focused on the incorrect knee. He reportedly played three more matches before the actual injury was correctly identified, although Mbappé later publicly refuted these specific claims.
Camavinga's Misdiagnosis Also Reported
New reports from France, specifically by L'Equipe, now suggest a similar diagnostic error occurred with Camavinga. After he sustained an injury against Athletic Club on December 3rd, it's claimed his left knee was scanned instead of his right, which was the actual source of pain. Despite still feeling discomfort and not training, Camavinga was included in the squad for the subsequent match, remaining an unused substitute. He was later sidelined for two weeks due to a knee injury.
Medical Staff Changes Follow Scrutiny
Real Madrid's medical department has faced significant scrutiny previously, with the club expressing concern over its injury management in the last two seasons. In January, these concerns led to changes, including Xabi Alonso's departure and the return of Antonio Pintus as head of the fitness department. Prior to this, former club doctor Niko Mihic was also brought back in an advisory capacity.
Compounding these issues, Mbappé sought a second opinion for his knee injury in Paris. Furthermore, Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rüdiger traveled to London for treatment in February and March, respectively. While manager Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed club staff accompanied them, these incidents have fueled media pressure in Spain, with calls for Los Blancos to enhance their player fitness and injury management protocols.
