Real Madrid Midfield Target Enzo Fernandez Uncertain About Chelsea Stay
Real Madrid is reportedly planning a significant investment in their midfield this summer, though specific targets remain largely unconfirmed. However, one long-standing prospect has recently fueled speculation about his potential availability.
Potential Targets and Enzo Fernandez's Situation
Several midfielders have been linked with a move to the Bernabéu, including Manchester City's Rodri Hernandez, AZ Alkmaar's Kees Smit, and Paris Saint-Germain's Vitinha. Adding to the list, recent reports suggest Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez might be open to a departure from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Fernandez on His Chelsea Future
Following Chelsea's Champions League exit after an 8-2 aggregate defeat to PSG, Fernandez addressed the media regarding his future. Argentine reports had already highlighted the uncertainty surrounding his position.
"Since I arrived at Chelsea, situations like this have occurred. It's crucial now to support my teammates," Fernandez told ESPN Argentina. "We can still turn this around; there are eight Premier League games left, and we need to qualify for the next Champions League, which is our objective. We also aim to win the FA Cup; it's a trophy, and we play football to win."
When pressed directly about his future, he added, "I don't know. Right now, I'm focused on the current situation, then the World Cup will come, and we'll see."
Contractual Hurdles for Real Madrid
Interest in Fernandez from Real Madrid had waned recently, primarily due to Chelsea's reported valuation of over €100 million. While PSG is also said to be monitoring the situation, Real Madrid's biggest challenge is likely Fernandez's extensive contract, which runs until 2032. Chelsea will be keen to recoup their €121 million investment, giving them a strong bargaining position. Furthermore, Los Blancos typically shy away from hefty investments in players aged 25 or older, although exceptions like Rodri or Vitinha might apply.
