Real Madrid Breathe Sigh of Relief as Fede Valverde Receives One-Match Ban

While Real Madrid secured a victory in Sunday's Madrid derby, their triumph came at a cost as midfielder Fede Valverde now faces a suspension. The Uruguayan received a red card at the Bernabéu following a robust challenge on Atlético Madrid's Alex Baena, leading to an imminent ban.

The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) confirmed to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero's decision was correct. Consequently, the Competition Committee was tasked with determining Valverde's sanction, reaching a conclusion this Wednesday that is expected to bring some relief to Real Madrid.

According to reports from Diario AS, the Committee has imposed a one-match suspension on Valverde. Although the nature of the foul play could have resulted in a two-game ban, the Committee opted for the minimum possible sanction.

Real Madrid's Appeal Rejected by Competition Committee

Real Madrid had appealed Valverde's sending-off, arguing that he had attempted to play the ball but mistimed his tackle. However, the Competition Committee disagreed, upholding referee Munuera Montero's original interpretation of the incident.

This ruling confirms that Valverde will be absent for Real Madrid's initial match after the international break, an away game against Mallorca at Son Moix. He will be eligible to play against Girona the following week; however, with that game positioned between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final, there remains a possibility he might be rested regardless.

While Valverde's absence for the Mallorca trip is a setback for Real Madrid, particularly considering his recent excellent form, the club can find solace in the fact that it is only a one-match suspension, especially since previous rulings indicated that a two-match ban could have been imposed.
