Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has become an unexpected focus in the Spanish capital this week. The center-back has been absent from the squad for the past month, with speculation pointing to a supposed disagreement with manager Álvaro Arbeloa as the reason.

Asencio was a regular starter for Los Blancos in March and a consistent performer. However, he was notably excluded from the lineup for their Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Manchester City. He was subsequently omitted from the squad for the following three matches, officially attributed to a muscle injury.

Recent reports suggest that Asencio was displeased with Arbeloa after being dropped for the first leg against City. The Real Madrid manager reportedly did not react well to his response. Asencio's absence from the squad was allegedly due to his refusal to apologize to his teammates after Antonio Rüdiger was drafted into the starting lineup at the last minute.

Asencio Responds to Rift Speculation

When questioned about his lack of playing time as he left training, Asencio stated, "That, you will have to ask Arbeloa."

This comment quickly gained traction on social media. Approximately two hours later, Asencio clarified his remarks on his own social media account, stating:

“I don’t understand the fuss you all make about things. The manager is the one in charge, he selects the players and takes them out. I have the utmost respect for him and all my teammates. A greeting to everyone and Hala Madrid.”

Asencio's Future Uncertain Beyond Summer

Cadena SER reports that Asencio's future beyond the current season is not guaranteed. Premier League clubs have reportedly shown interest. Real Madrid is in the market for at least one central defender, though the specific target remains unclear. If an opportunity arises to sell Asencio, Real Madrid may view it as a favorable move.
