Key Factor Unveiled for Japan and Real Sociedad Star's Future
The future of Takefusa Kubo has been a consistent topic of discussion almost every summer since his inaugural season with Real Sociedad. The Japanese international was once considered a league standout, but last season, akin to his entire squad, he encountered more challenges, and this current season has been plagued by injuries.
Liverpool showed interest in Kubo for some time, yet their enthusiasm appears to have waned due to the player's dip in form. The 24-year-old possesses a €60 million release clause in his contract, valid until 2029, and "La Real" seemingly demands the full sum to allow his departure. Real Madrid is entitled to half of this amount, holding a 50% sell-on clause in his agreement.
Kubo's Destiny May Hinge on European Qualification
According to Diario AS, Tottenham Hotspur became the latest club to express interest in Kubo, though no official offer has been submitted yet. It's noted that Kubo grew disillusioned with the team's trajectory earlier in the season, hinting at a potential exit, but the arrival of Pellegrino Matarazzo has since altered the situation.
In a recent interview with Onda Cero Gipuzkoa, Kubo stated his focus was on the World Cup when questioned about his future. Nevertheless, Matarazzo's influence and the prospect of securing a European spot could sway Kubo's decision regarding leaving "Txuri-Urdin."
"I Will Play in the Copa del Rey Final" – Kubo
During the same interview, as quoted by NdG, Kubo also confirmed his readiness for the Copa del Rey final on April 18th. Kubo has been sidelined since mid-January due to a muscle tear.
"For now, all I can say is that I will be ready. We are currently collaborating with physiotherapists and medical staff on how to get there, to see if I can be in better shape than I am now. Hopefully, I can be one of those players who can contribute and assist in the final."
This season, Kubo has only made 20 appearances, scoring twice and providing three assists, but he now seems to be in the final stages of his recovery.
