Hansi Flick, the manager of Barcelona, appears to be distancing himself from suggestions that he is close to signing a contract extension with the club. While the German coach is currently under contract until 2027, newly re-elected President Joan Laporta had previously pledged that Flick would commit to an extended deal.

Earlier this week, President Laporta expressed confidence, stating he anticipated Flick would extend his agreement until 2028 very soon. Laporta's recent election campaign heavily featured his role in securing Flick's continued presence at the club. However, speaking before Barcelona's Champions League second-leg clash against Newcastle United, Flick refrained from confirming his stay for an additional season.

"I don’t believe now is the opportune moment," Flick stated. "We have a crucial match ahead. While it's common knowledge that I'm very content here, I first need to discuss matters with my family. There will be ample time for these conversations; it's simply not right now."

He continued, "My affection for working here is undeniable. What I value most deeply is the sense of having a wonderful family here. I feel the backing of Barcelona, but this is the nature of football. My objective is to help the club achieve the highest echelons, and there's still time for that. I'm not considering any other opportunities. This will be my final club, my ultimate role, and I am absolutely thrilled."

Reports in the Catalan press have hinted that Flick was less than enthusiastic about the recent electoral commotion at the club. He was questioned about his relief now that the elections have concluded.
