Barcelona Targets Full Camp Nou Capacity by April 2027 Amid Renovation Pressure

FC Barcelona has outlined updated objectives for the ongoing renovation of Camp Nou. The stadium's reconstruction has encountered multiple setbacks, placing the Catalan club under considerable financial strain to finalize the project expeditiously.

Each match played with a diminished capacity represents a multi-million euro opportunity cost. Furthermore, the Blaugrana must adhere to strict deadlines related to the loans secured for the project's completion. The Spotify Camp Nou currently operates at 62,500 seats, significantly less than its projected 105,000 capacity upon full completion.

Construction is presently focused on the stadium's third tier. Barcelona is contractually obligated to complete the stadium by July 2028. Failure to meet this deadline would grant sponsor Spotify the unilateral right to terminate their naming rights agreement, a deal valued at €20 million annually.

Barcelona Targets Full Camp Nou Capacity for April 2027

Reports indicate that Barcelona intends to have all seating areas and VIP boxes fully operational by April 2027. Following the approach used for the second tier, the club plans a phased reopening of the third tier. The initial stage aims to boost capacity to 70,000 by September 2026, with the opening of seats in the 'Lateral' stand, opposite the 'Tribuna'.

Should the schedule proceed as planned, the Tribuna section is expected to reopen by the end of 2026, increasing the stadium's capacity to 80,000. The remaining 25,000 seats, located behind both goals, are slated for reopening in the subsequent four months.

Potential Return to Montjuïc for Roof Installation

The installation of the new roof necessitates a temporary suspension of all stadium activities, a process now scheduled for after the 2026-27 season, with completion targeted for October 2027. Barcelona is evaluating the possibility of returning to either Montjuïc or the Estadi Johan Cruyff at their training facilities for the latter part of this period. Consequently, the club is exploring options to increase the capacity of the Estadi Johan Cruyff if its use becomes necessary. A more prolonged delay would likely see Barcelona revert to Montjuïc.
