Barcelona plan to put two players up for sale if Alessandro Bastoni signing goes through

Barcelona, like many of Europe's top clubs, is currently immersed in the strategic planning for the upcoming summer transfer window. It appears that Football Director Deco has identified clear priorities, but the successful execution of these key deals, mirroring patterns from last summer, will significantly influence subsequent transfer movements.

This includes potential player departures. In defense, Barcelona aims to bring in a new central defender, while securing a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski remains a primary objective. Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni is reportedly the main target for bolstering the backline. According to Catalan daily Sport, if Barcelona manages to finalize his signing, it will initiate a "domino effect" within the squad.

Andreas Christensen's Future Uncertain

Many were surprised by reports in January suggesting that Barcelona intended to offer injury-prone defender Andreas Christensen a new contract. The Danish international reportedly has terms on the table but has yet to accept them, particularly given what appears to be a notable salary reduction, as he evaluates his options. Christensen is one of the players Barcelona would consider selling if they secure the Bastoni deal. Naturally, if he doesn't agree to new terms, he would be free to leave without a transfer fee.

Barca Atletic Defender's Path Hinges on Bastoni Deal

Another defender closely monitoring these developments is Barca Atletic's Alvaro Cortes. He has been a consistent performer for Juliano Belletti this season and was recently rewarded with a new contract extending until 2028. However, the arrival of Bastoni could block his pathway to the first team, potentially leading the Blaugrana to seek an exit for him.

Cortes, a Spain U21 international, joined from Real Zaragoza in 2024 and has since become a defensive leader, even making several senior squad appearances. Yet, with the January arrival of Juwensley Onstein from KRC Genk, it appears Barcelona already has contingency plans in place should Cortes depart.
