Barcelona and Atletico Madrid Face Crucial Injury Updates Ahead of Triple Showdown

A pivotal series of three matches between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid is set to ignite this weekend, with the two Spanish giants clashing three times within a tight 10-day window. These encounters will significantly influence the La Liga title race and determine a Champions League semi-finalist. Player fitness and availability will be key factors in these high-stakes contests.

Barcelona recently faced a setback with key forward Raphinha ruled out for five weeks, joining Andreas Christensen on the sidelines. However, there's positive news from the Camp Nou camp. Defenders Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde were both seen training on the pitch this Monday, signaling their readiness for Saturday's crucial Liga clash and the subsequent Champions League ties. While Balde faces competition for his starting spot from Joao Cancelo and Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia is also anticipated to return and could feature in central defence.

On the flip side, midfielder Frenkie de Jong is unlikely to be fit for this weekend's game. The Dutchman is reportedly targeting the first Champions League fixture between the clubs on April 8th, where he too will need to reclaim his starting position.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, expects goalkeeper Jan Oblak to return. Midfielder Pablo Barrios, however, is likely to miss at least two of the upcoming matches. Johnny Cardoso, who experienced muscle discomfort on international duty, is expected to be fit for the Champions League games despite being suspended for the Liga fixture. Marcos Llorente is also suspended for the league encounter, leaving Koke Resurreccion as Atletico's sole fit central midfielder for that specific match. However, there's hope that Rodrigo Mendoza could make a timely return for the Liga game, offering more options for manager Diego Simeone.
