Atletico Madrid's Sporting Director, Mateu Alemany, has reportedly begun early transfer preparations, anticipating a busy summer window at the Metropolitano, his first in full charge of such activities.

Alemany's prior involvement in January saw him orchestrate four player exits, generating approximately €60 million, while spending a similar amount on new signings, including Ademola Lookman, Rodrigo Mendoza, and Obed Vargas. He has already initiated efforts for two key summer targets. Following Antoine Griezmann's confirmed departure from Los Colchoneros this summer, Kang-In Lee appears to be the primary candidate to fill his shoes.

Alemany Travels to Italy for Ederson Negotiations

Los Rojiblancos made attempts to sign Kang-In during the January window, but Paris Saint-Germain rejected their advances. A similar scenario unfolded for Atalanta midfielder Ederson dos Santos. According to sources, Alemany was in Italy last week, engaging in discussions with Atalanta President Antonio Percassi regarding a potential transfer for Ederson.

Atletico's proposed terms are an initial offer of €35 million, supplemented by €5 million in performance-related variables. However, the Italian club is holding out for €50 million for the Brazilian midfielder. With Ederson's contract set to expire in 2027, Atletico believes this factor could help reduce the asking price. His potential annual salary is estimated to be in the range of €4-5 million.

Atletico Madrid Eager to Conclude Deal

The potential involvement of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal reportedly among those showing interest, could inflate Ederson's transfer fee. Consequently, Alemany is reportedly keen to finalize the deal significantly ahead of the summer transfer window to preempt any bidding wars with English sides.

If signed, Ederson would likely contend for a starting position with Johnny Cardoso, the USMNT midfielder who has established himself in 2026 alongside Koke Resurreccion, particularly following injuries to Pablo Barrios. However, Barrios is still expected to be a long-term fixture in Diego Simeone's midfield, which typically favors a central pairing over a trio.
