Arbeloa Disagrees with Valverde's Red Card Against Atlético
Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Atlético Madrid, keeping their La Liga title hopes alive. The match was marred by Fede Valverde's red card for a foul on Alex Baena. Los Blancos' head coach Alvaro Arbeloa expressed his disagreement with the referee's decision, though he appreciated José Luis Munuera Montero's explanation.
Arbeloa stated, "We showed character and mental strength. We had to suffer, playing with ten men. I have a different opinion regarding the red card. The referee explained it was excessive force, but I don't see it that way. There was no intent to injure. Nevertheless, we secured the three points, which was our goal." He added that the sending off significantly complicated the game, but the team prevailed.
Praise for Vinicius Junior
Arbeloa specifically highlighted Vinicius Junior, calling him the man of the match. "He had another great game. It was a demonstration of talent, courage, fearlessness. We are very lucky to have such a player. I don't know if this is the best moment of his career, but he's very close to it," the coach remarked.
Carvajal's Inclusion in the Starting Lineup
The coach also explained why Dani Carvajal started at right-back instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold. "I always pick the best eleven for each match. Carvajal delivered very good minutes, handling Lookman effectively. I am happy with him and with how Trent has performed. It's great to have so many options and for everyone to contribute as they did today."
Plans for Bellingham's Integration
Regarding Jude Bellingham, who made his first appearance after nearly a two-month break, Arbeloa said, "We will see in the next matches. He's returning after a long absence, and I would like his progression to be gradual, similar to, for example, Mbappé. I'll have to find him a place and surround him with players with whom he has good chemistry. Bellingham's 'problem' is that he's very good at many things, and when you are so versatile, you have to choose."
