Sports news ยป Derrick Lewis Unfazed by Outdoor Fight Conditions at UFC Freedom 250

Derrick Lewis is prepared to compete in an outdoor setting once again and remains unconcerned about the potential presence of insects at UFC Freedom 250. ‘The Black Beast’ is set to face the controversial and rising heavyweight contender Josh Hokit on the grounds of the White House on June 14th. Many are focusing on the unique circumstances surrounding this event.

Beyond the unusual location, there are also considerations for an event not held in the controlled environment of an arena. High temperatures and the possibility of insects entering the cage have been topics of discussion. However, the popular knockout artist is not letting these factors deter him.

Speaking at the UFC media day prior to the White House event, Lewis shared his perspective:

“The last time I fought outdoors, I was incarcerated for three and a half years, so I have experience with that. I reside in Texas, where we deal with mosquitos and bugs constantly. They bite all day. So, I’m accustomed to that.”

Derrick Lewis Dismisses Josh Hokit’s Tactics, Ready for Direct Confrontation

Derrick Lewis is not concerned about the physical discomfort of the heat, nor is he bothered by Josh Hokit’s peculiar trash talk, which has become characteristic of the latter’s persona. Lewis conveyed this sentiment during a recent interview with MMA Fighting in May:

“I genuinely don’t care. I believe fighters resort to such tactics because there’s nothing else to leverage. Since he doesn’t know me and I don’t know him, I suspect he says and does these things to provoke someone he’s unfamiliar with. We are about to engage in a physical confrontation in a few weeks, so it’s understandable that one would seek some form of motivation.”

“I pay no mind to all the trash talk. I’ve been in this game long enough to understand that people can say anything. Say whatever, it makes no difference. We are consistently asked these questions, so sometimes fighters aren’t sure what to say and just say what comes to mind. That’s my approach.”
