Benjamin Adegbuyi is set to compete at SENSHI 31 in Bulgaria on May 30th, held at the historic Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv. The Romanian heavyweight will face Daniel Dinev in a super fight in the 95+ kg category. The venue, the Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv, boasts a history dating back to the 1st century AD and was once a site for gladiatorial contests.

Now 41 and known as “Mr. Gentleman,” Adegbuyi began his martial arts journey with karate at the age of 10. He explained that the rising popularity of K1 in Romania fueled his passion for kickboxing. His training regimen involves morning sessions focused on strength and evening sessions dedicated to kickboxing, incorporating sparring and combo drills to maintain his sharpness. Adegbuyi emphasized that he continues to learn and evolve in the sport.

Throughout his career, Adegbuyi has challenged for Glory’s heavyweight belt twice against Rico Verhoeven. A significant highlight for him was his TKO victory over Badr Hari in the third round at Glory 76. He also secured tournament wins at Glory 24 and Glory 50, holding a 15-8 record within the organization.

Reflecting on his career, Adegbuyi considers his tournament victories at the highest level with Glory, his two title challenges against Rico Verhoeven, and his win over Badr Hari as his most notable achievements over his 20-year tenure in the sport. He also noted the impressive run of Zhulien Rikov in SENSHI. Adegbuyi sees similarities between Romanian and Bulgarian kickboxing scenes, but believes SENSHI stands out for reaching a global, elite level in kickboxing.

Adegbuyi believes that physical strength significantly contributes to mental fortitude, stating, “When you are physically strong, the mind follows, making you strong and confident.” He also highlighted the importance of full commitment for champions. To unwind, he enjoys cooking and supports his son at basketball games. He maintains perspective by recognizing that there are always individuals facing greater challenges. For aspiring fighters, he advises them to “believe in themselves, never give up, and if you have a dream, be ready to sacrifice for them.” Adegbuyi anticipates a few more fights, including significant ones next year.

Looking ahead to his bout against Dinev, the 14-time Bulgarian champion, Adegbuyi expressed confidence, stating, “I feel confident and can’t wait to step back in the ring again.” He defines SENSHI as representing “honorable respect and sportsmanship.” His strategy is simple: “Just be myself because that’s all I need.” He views his upcoming opponent, Dinev, as an opportunity to test himself, wanting to face “his best version.” Adegbuyi promises an exciting fight for the fans, warning them not to miss any moment as the fight “can finish in seconds.”

The SENSHI 31 event will also feature an eight-man 70 kg Grand Prix, with quarterfinal matchups including Angelo Volpe vs. Samo Petje and Aissam Chadid vs. Bruno Gazani, followed by semifinals and a final. Other super fights on the card include Mantas Rimdeika against Thomas Bridgewater in the heavyweight division and Bart Horvath facing Atanas Bozhilov at 75 kg.
