Reports indicate that if Julian Alvarez departs from Atletico Madrid this summer, Barcelona is unlikely to be his next destination. Paris Saint-Germain has emerged as the frontrunner for his signing, with negotiations reportedly already in progress.
Alvarez was identified as Barcelona’s primary target to succeed Robert Lewandowski. However, sources suggest that Barcelona’s Director of Football, Deco, is actively pursuing other options concurrently with their pursuit of the Argentine international. While Barcelona remains in contention for Alvarez, they acknowledge the significant financial challenges involved in securing a deal.
Last week, Deco met with agent Juanma Lopez, who could serve as an intermediary in facilitating a transfer. Ultimately, Alvarez himself would need to express a clear desire to leave Atletico Madrid.
PSG’s Pursuit of Julian Alvarez Underway
According to reports, PSG is prepared to offer over €100 million for Alvarez, significantly complicating Barcelona’s efforts. Similar to past transfer windows, Barcelona would likely require the player to prioritize a move to their club exclusively. Furthermore, information suggests that negotiations between PSG and Atletico Madrid for Alvarez are already in motion. There have been prior reports of Atletico potentially negotiating for PSG players Goncalo Ramos and Kang-In Lee, which PSG could facilitate if Atletico agrees to a deal for Alvarez. While these proposed deals would be separate, the cost for the 26-year-old forward could range from €140-150 million.
Julian Alvarez Content in Madrid
Concurrently, should Alvarez remain at Atletico Madrid, he is in line for a new, lucrative contract. Reports suggest that Alvarez is content in the Spanish capital and would likely prefer to stay in La Liga over a move to France. A potential deal for Alvarez is estimated to be between €100-130 million, with the possibility of Barcelona including players in any transfer agreement. It is reiterated that for Alvarez to leave, he would need to publicly declare his intention to do so.
