Barcelona are actively planning to recruit at least two new forwards this summer, with a particular focus on securing a left winger and a striker. The need for a new winger is a priority, irrespective of any developments regarding Marcus Rashford. Currently, there’s a strong possibility that an international teammate of the Manchester United loanee might be the player to join Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The Catalan club has been exploring various options to bolster their attacking lineup. Among the prominent names on their shortlist are Julian Alvarez, Joao Pedro, and Harry Kane. However, another player who is increasingly gaining traction with sporting director Deco is Anthony Gordon.
Gordon is widely expected to depart Newcastle United this summer and is already reportedly in discussions with Bayern Munich regarding a transfer. According to reports from MD, Barcelona have now accelerated their plans to sign him. This development could spell trouble for the Bavarian club, as the 25-year-old is said to favor a move to the La Liga champions.
Deco recently traveled to London, where he held talks with the representatives of Joao Pedro, who currently plays for Chelsea. During this trip, discussions also extended to a potential summer move for Gordon. Barcelona has officially communicated their interest to the player himself, who is reportedly very enthusiastic about the prospect of playing for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona consider Gordon a versatile option for winger and striker roles
During the 2025-26 season, Gordon showcased his versatility for Newcastle, operating effectively as both a winger and a striker. He contributed a total of 17 goals and five assists across all competitions. Barcelona sees him as a player who can fill both these attacking roles for them, which would alleviate some of the pressure on Deco to find a suitable replacement for Lewandowski.
The primary obstacle at this stage is the transfer fee. Newcastle United is reportedly demanding between โฌ85-90 million for Gordon’s sale this summer. However, earlier reports suggested that a deal could potentially be struck for โฌ75 million, a figure that would be more manageable for Barcelona. Nevertheless, even this amount would represent a significant portion of their intended transfer budget, which they also plan to allocate for signing a new center-back and a number nine.
