Barcelona is actively seeking a new left winger for the upcoming summer transfer window, as the prospect of permanently signing Marcus Rashford appears increasingly unlikely. Amidst a list of identified targets, Alberto Moleiro has recently emerged as a name of significant interest.
Moleiro has been on Barcelona’s radar for several years. The Catalan club previously attempted to recruit him during his time at Las Palmas and has diligently followed his development since his move to Villarreal last summer, where his performance has been particularly impressive. The 22-year-old winger has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign at La Ceramica, contributing 10 goals and five assists.
According to reports from Sport, Barcelona has recently engaged in discussions with Moleiro’s agent to assess the feasibility of a transfer, either in the immediate future or at a later stage. The club views Moleiro as a player with substantial potential for growth and, given the pressing need for a left winger, a move could be expedited.
The report further indicates that Moleiro is a fervent supporter of Barcelona and has previously expressed his aspiration to play for the Blaugrana. Villarreal is aware of this situation, though they are understandably reluctant to part with one of their key players.
Villarreal and Moleiro have an agreement with Barcelona
Consequently, Villarreal would typically refer to Moleiro’s €50 million release clause should any clubs express concrete interest this summer. However, Barcelona appears to be an exception, as it is rumored that the Yellow Submarine has an understanding with the player that a deal could be negotiated for a lesser fee should the Catalans make a serious approach.
It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will pursue Moleiro this summer. However, with the club prioritizing significant investments in a center-back and a striker first, any potential transfer for Moleiro is likely to be postponed until at least 2027.
