Barcelona Forward Roony Bardghji Likely to Leave This Summer Due to Lack of Game Time

Sports news » Barcelona Forward Roony Bardghji Likely to Leave This Summer Due to Lack of Game Time

Roony Bardghji has made a positive impression in his debut season at Barcelona, but his playing opportunities have been scarce. Primarily, he has found himself behind Lamine Yamal in the pecking order, especially in the latter half of the season, as the Spanish international recovered from his sports hernia issues.

Bardghji has demonstrated versatility, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder (number 10) or on the left flank. However, his most natural and comfortable position is on the right wing. The 20-year-old Swedish talent arrived from FC Copenhagen last summer for a fee of €2.5 million. In his 23 appearances, he has contributed two goals and four assists, accumulating just 616 minutes on the field. This translates to a goal contribution on average every 102 minutes.

Bardghji’s Departure from Barcelona This Summer is Probable

According to reports from Sport, Roony Bardghji is likely to depart Barcelona this summer. The Catalan club has been fielding inquiries about the player from clubs such as Porto, Monaco, and Stuttgart since as early as January. More recently, Juventus has also reportedly expressed interest in him. However, the Catalan publication suggests that any move is more likely to be a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer. Barcelona aims to retain control over his future, as they believe he possesses significant potential, though they acknowledge he requires more playing time to continue his development.

Will Barcelona Seek a Replacement for Bardghji?

The Blaugrana certainly valued having an alternative to Lamine Yamal earlier in the season, but his role has been limited. For coach Hansi Flick, the ideal scenario would be to have a forward who is comfortable playing on both the right and left wings, providing backup for Raphinha as well. The club’s decision might also depend on the emerging talent from La Masia in the right-wing position, as a young player from the academy could potentially fill the minutes Bardghji would leave behind.

Conversely, it poses a significant risk if Lamine Yamal were to be injured and there wasn’t a capable player ready to step in, a situation where Bardghji has proven his ability.
