The Calgary Flames are injecting fresh talent into their lineup as they compete for a playoff spot.
Zayne Parekh, a highly-regarded young player, has been promoted from the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, the team announced Tuesday.
This season, the 19-year-old defenseman was a standout performer for the Spirit, amassing an impressive 107 points, including 33 goals and 74 assists, in 61 games.
Hailing from Nobleton, Ontario, Parekh was Calgary`s first-round pick, selected ninth overall in the previous year`s NHL Entry Draft.
Currently, the Flames are pursuing a wild-card berth in the Western Conference, trailing by four points with a total of 87 points from 77 games played.
Parekh could potentially make his National Hockey League debut on Wednesday when the Flames face the Anaheim Ducks on the road.
