MONTREAL — A strong third-period surge propelled the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Nick Suzuki played a pivotal role, contributing a goal and an assist for the Canadiens.
Suzuki`s shorthanded goal was a highlight, boosting his season points to an impressive 83. Brendan Gallagher marked his 20th goal of the season, while Lane Hutson also found the back of the net for Montreal (37-30-9). This win marks the Canadiens` fourth consecutive victory as they fiercely compete for a playoff berth.
Goaltender Sam Montembeault was solid in net, stopping 21 shots in his fifth straight start.
Ryan Poehling and Tyson Foerster were the goal scorers for Philadelphia (31-37-9), who experienced their first defeat after a three-game winning streak. Samuel Ersson, Philadelphia`s goalie, made 24 saves at the Bell Centre.
The Flyers now hold a 3-1-0 record under interim head coach Brad Shaw, who took over from John Tortorella on March 27. It`s worth noting that Philadelphia had previously defeated Montreal 6-4 on March 27.
