Sibling rivalry is a central theme in the relationship between Jake Paul and his older brother, Logan Paul.
The debut episode of their reality series, “Paul American,” now available on Max, revisits the moment Jake announced his highly publicized fight against Mike Tyson. This event became one of the most-watched combat sports spectacles. However, shortly after the fight was confirmed, Logan, along with his Prime Energy Drink partner KSI, publicly questioned the matchup on their podcast, citing Tyson`s age. The now 58-year-old boxing legend had accepted Jake`s challenge, leading to Logan`s critical remarks.
This commentary sparked a heated phone conversation between the brothers after Jake listened to the podcast.
“I’m dedicated to maximizing the event`s scale,” Jake told Logan, expressing his frustration. “You, as my closest confidant, are undermining it by making disparaging remarks with KSI. I feel completely disconnected from you, brother.”
In a separate interview segment, Jake mentioned that Logan has a history of this behavior throughout their lives, so he wasn`t entirely surprised it recurred following the announcement of his career`s biggest opportunity.
“Logan consistently tries to diminish my achievements whenever possible,” Jake stated. “He`s publicly criticizing my most significant accomplishment with my biggest rival, KSI. This isn`t how brothers should act.”
Logan and KSI`s close relationship in recent years is well-known, but Jake`s ongoing feud with KSI likely amplified the sting of the podcast episode.
Logan, however, didn`t perceive his comments as overly critical, believing they wouldn`t deter viewers from watching the fight.
“No one will decide against watching Mike Tyson fight because I mentioned his age. It’s common knowledge,” Logan argued. “Did you even listen to the podcast properly? I was actually supportive of you the entire time! I predicted you could knock him out in the second round. I said you were likely to win if it was a serious fight.”
“Who are you listening to for advice? People who just agree with you? That’s not me. Get someone else to validate your fight with Mike Tyson. He is old, factually!”
Jake remained unconvinced, attempting to explain that public perception is crucial and that disparagement from a family member negatively impacts the event`s promotion.
“That’s beside the point,” Jake retorted. “It’s about promoting the fight effectively. And the criticism is coming from my own brother.”
The conversation escalated into personal attacks, with Jake targeting Logan’s social circle.
“I am surrounded by genuine friends and family. You, on the other hand, don`t have any real friends. Mike [Majlak, podcast co-host] is essentially a paid companion,” Jake accused.
Logan responded with a similar accusation, and the argument concluded with Jake disconnecting the call.
“You live with people you pay to be around you,” Logan fired back, just before Jake hung up. “What a complete coward.”
During the episode, their mother expressed her distress at seeing her sons in conflict, especially when their disputes become so aggressive.
Logan acknowledged that his personality often clashes with Jake`s, creating a volatile dynamic.
“Jake is resilient but also sensitive, and I am abrasive,” Logan admitted. “It’s a problematic combination.”
Jake seemed to concur, particularly regarding Logan`s attitude towards him.
“I often struggle to understand Logan’s treatment of me,” Jake confessed. “His lack of empathy towards his younger brother is almost sociopathic, and he`s constantly trying to undermine me.”
This tense exchange was further complicated by occurring just before Jake and Logan were scheduled to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery to propose their reality show idea. Fortunately, tensions eased, and Logan later informed Jake that he had edited the podcast episode to soften his comments about the Tyson fight.
Jake ultimately proceeded with the fight and defeated Tyson by decision, in a match reportedly watched by 100 million Netflix viewers.
