Tom Willander is preparing to advance to the professional ranks of hockey. The Vancouver Canucks of the NHL announced on Wednesday that they have signed the defenseman to a three-year entry-level contract, which will commence next season.
Willander, a native of Sweden, recently finished his second collegiate season playing for the Boston University Terriers. In 39 games this past season, he recorded two goals and 22 assists for a total of 24 points. Across his two seasons with the Terriers, Willander accumulated 49 points.
The 20-year-old prospect was originally selected by the Canucks with the 11th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin released a statement regarding the signing:
“We are excited to have Tom under contract and for him to start his professional hockey career,” Allvin stated. “Our group has watched him closely the past couple of seasons and have been impressed with his progression and growth in the NCAA. Now is the perfect time for him to take the next step and join our organization. The hard work starts this summer, and we look forward to seeing where Tom is at this September at training camp.”
