UFC Veteran Criticizes Promotion’s “Sloppy” AI-Generated Promos, Calls Them “Brain Rot”

Sports news » UFC Veteran Criticizes Promotion’s “Sloppy” AI-Generated Promos, Calls Them “Brain Rot”

A UFC fighter has voiced his disapproval of the promotion’s increasing use of artificial intelligence in its promotional materials. This sentiment echoes the frustrations previously expressed by many fans regarding the UFC’s promotional style, which is often contrasted with the more elaborate and cinematic presentations found in boxing.

The UFC appears to be embracing AI technology, particularly in video production, a trend that became evident with the teaser for UFC Freedom 250, scheduled to be held at the White House. This particular promo, largely created by AI, quickly ignited a discussion among fans.

Despite criticism from the fanbase, UFC President Dana White and chief content officer Craig Borsari have indicated a commitment to further integrating AI and similar technologies. White has been notably dismissive of the backlash, advising critics to “shut the fu*k up and watch the fights.”

However, UFC fighter Renato Moicano holds a different view, asserting that the promotion’s reliance on AI-generated content is a detriment to the UFC audience.

Renato Moicano Expresses Disappointment with UFC’s AI Promos

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Renato Moicano strongly criticized the UFC’s AI-produced promo for its White House event. Moicano argued that a company generating record profits should prioritize high-quality production over machine-generated videos, which he believes do not meet the standards fans deserve.

“UFC is not going to be very happy for me to say that, but I didn’t like it,” Moicano stated. “I think that’s disrespectful towards the fans, because I am a fan myself. If you can’t put Alex Pereira or Ilia Topuria on an airplane and put them in Washington in front of the White House, I don’t think that’s good. I think that’s sloppy. I don’t like to use AI in my stuff. I’m not saying AI doesn’t help, some stuff I use AI. But not for content. Because I think people can see that’s just sloppy. That’s brain rot.”
