Christopher Ewert`s brief tenure with the Ultimate Fighting Championship came to a swift end, lasting less than a week.

The previously undefeated middleweight was signed on short notice just days before UFC 317, stepping in as a replacement for Sedriques Dumas to face Jackson McVey in the event`s initial preliminary bout scheduled for Saturday in Las Vegas. However, during Friday`s official weigh-ins, it was announced that the fight between Ewert and McVey had been canceled due to difficulties Ewert experienced while attempting to cut weight.

According to the UFC`s official weigh-in broadcast, Ewert weighed in 10 pounds over the designated limit for the middleweight division. As a direct consequence of this failure, he has since been released from the promotion.

Despite his opponent`s withdrawal, Jackson McVey still participated in the UFC 317 official weigh-ins, successfully making the middleweight limit at 185 pounds. It was also stated that UFC officials are actively working to secure a new fight opportunity for McVey in the near future.

The UFC 317 event at T-Mobile Arena is set to proceed with the remaining 11 fights on the card. The main event will see former featherweight kingpin Ilia Topuria challenge Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight championship, while flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja aims for his fourth title defense against Kai Kara-France in the co-main event slot.
