An unusual situation involving simultaneous injuries to both participants has resulted in one less fight scheduled for the upcoming UFC Des Moines event.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion confirmed on Tuesday that the planned light heavyweight matchup between Junior Tafa and Tuco Tokkos has been removed from the card for Saturday`s UFC Fight Night, set to take place at Wells Fargo Arena. The reason given for the cancellation is that both fighters sustained injuries.
Details concerning the specific nature of the injuries were not revealed by the promotion. However, the expectation is that this bout will be rescheduled for a later date once both athletes have recovered and are fit to compete.
Junior Tafa`s last appearance in the octagon was in October, where he secured a victory via second-round TKO against Sean Sharaf, snapping a two-fight losing streak. In contrast, Tuco Tokkos is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Navajo Stirling at UFC Tampa in December.
Despite the cancellation of one fight, the UFC Des Moines event is still scheduled to proceed with a total of 12 bouts. The card is headlined by a five-round bantamweight main event featuring Cory Sandhagen against Deiveson Figueiredo.
