UFC 316 Main Card Reshuffled: Ex-Bellator Champ Patchy Mix Steps In

Sports news » UFC 316 Main Card Reshuffled: Ex-Bellator Champ Patchy Mix Steps In

The main card for UFC 316 has undergone changes following the signing of former Bellator bantamweight champion Patchy Mix, who promptly accepted a short-notice bout for the June 7 pay-per-view event.

The updated five-fight lineup was announced on Saturday night after Marlon “Chito” Vera withdrew from the event due to a training injury.

Mix now fills that spot, scheduled to face Mario Bautista in a bantamweight contest, joining a strong card set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

This fight marks Mix`s highly anticipated Octagon debut, offering the final Bellator bantamweight champion a significant opportunity to demonstrate his elite status against a top-15 ranked opponent right away.

Headlining UFC 316 is the bantamweight championship rematch between current champion Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. The text states that Dvalishvili previously defeated O’Malley when they last met in September, and they will run it back on June 7.

The co-main event features reigning women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena taking on two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison. Since joining the UFC, Harrison has compiled a 2-0 record, including a victory over former champion Holly Holm, and will now aim to capture UFC gold against Pena at UFC 316.

Rounding out the main card are middleweights Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer and a welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and Kevin Holland, serving as the main card opener.

The full bout order for the preliminary fights and the rest of the card has yet to be determined.

Here is the updated UFC 316 main card:

  • Main Event: Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley (Bantamweight Title)
  • Co-Main Event: Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison (Women`s Bantamweight)
  • Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer (Middleweight)
  • Mario Bautista vs. Patchy Mix (Bantamweight)
  • Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland (Welterweight)
