Trevor Peek Withdraws from UFC Event Following Freak Leg Injury

Sports news » Trevor Peek Withdraws from UFC Event Following Freak Leg Injury

Trevor Peek will be sidelined from fighting for the foreseeable future after an unfortunate accident.

What began as a routine training session for Peek took a disastrous turn when he suffered an unusual leg injury while training at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. Peek was scheduled to compete against Jeong Yeong Lee in a featherweight match at UFC Des Moines on May 3rd, but this fight has now been cancelled.

Peek shared details of his injury in an Instagram post, stating, “I actually fractured my leg at the Performance Institute on Friday. It’s not a severe fracture, but I need to get CT scans in the next day or two to determine if there’s any ligament damage or anything else.”

He continued, “I wish I had a more exciting story about how it happened, but I was just jump roping on some soft mats. I was alternating legs and had been jump roping for about 20 minutes, got a bit tired and careless, and wasn`t paying attention. I landed with my full weight on my left leg, and it popped loudly, sounding like a shotgun.”

This injury prevents Peek from making his first appearance of 2025, following a challenging 0-2 record in 2024. He is currently on a two-fight losing streak, having lost to Yanal Ashmouz and Charlie Campbell, bringing his UFC record to 1-3.

Peek believes that if the injury had occurred off UFC property, he might have tried to conceal it and still compete on fight night.

“Unfortunately, it happened on UFC premises, so they were immediately aware,” Peek explained. “If there were a way to just tape it up and get through without anyone knowing, I definitely would have tried my best to make the May 3rd fight happen. I`ve always pushed through injuries and less-than-ideal health in the past. This upcoming fight is crucial for my career, so perhaps it`s for the best that it happened at their facility, as they made the decision to remove me from the card.”

Peek mentioned speaking with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby, and they are hoping to reschedule him for the upcoming Nashville event on July 12th. It remains unclear whether the UFC will seek a replacement opponent for Jeong Yeong Lee for the Des Moines event.
